Mrs. Massey, Band
Mrs. Massey grew up in a small town of Lolita in South Texas where she attended Industrial High School. While in high school she was a Varsity Softball player, participated in many UIL academic events, served as a class officer, was Drum Major and President of her high school band, and ranked 3rd in her graduating class! She was a 4 year member of the All-Region Band on flute, having made it to the Area level audition 3 times. Participating in numerous band events throughout high school helped her to earn the John Phillip Sousa Award for band at the end of her senior year.
Mrs. Massey is a 2006 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Sam Houston State University, having earned a degree in Music Education. While at SHSU she was an active member of many performing groups including the Bearkat Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Bearkat Basketball Band, and Flute Choir. Throughout her time studying flute and piccolo with Kathy Daniel, Mrs. Massey was an Undergraduate Division winner of the Houston Flute Club's solo competition and won two spots on the Sam Houston School of Music's Honors Recital.
The 2016-2017 school year marks Mrs. Massey’s 12th year as a public school band director. Bands under Mrs. Massey's direction have been consistent Sweepstakes winners at the UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest. Prior to coming to teach at Berry Miller Junior High and Rogers Middle School, she was an assistant band director at Hildebrandt Intermediate in Klein ISD. Mrs. Massey also spends time teaching summer band camps at Sam Houston State University, Lamar University, and most recently at Klein ISD's Heavy Metal Brass Academy.
When Mrs. Massey is not shaping the musical minds of her students she enjoys spending time with her husband Joseph. They enjoy camping, hiking, gaming, and are always experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes. The Masseys also spend as much free time as possible with their dog, Miles.
