Degrees and Certifications:
B.S. in Education with a Focus on Gifted & Talented Studies, Baylor
Mrs. Amber Reynolds
Hello and welcome to 6th Grade at the GT Academy!
This is my second year to be part of the wonderful team here. Before that, I taught several years in Clear Creek ISD, but joined my husband (who teaches at Pearland HS) in Pearland ISD last year. We love being part of this community. For college, I attended Baylor University and specialized there in Gifted and Talented Studies, the only undergrad program of its kind in the nation. I was so fortunate to learn there from some distinguished names in the field of Gifted Education. My time at Baylor and in the GT program in Midway ISD instilled in me a love for engaging this population and equipping them with just the right tools to meet their unique needs. I believe that our GT students truly will be the leaders and innovators of tomorrow, and I am so honored to have a small part in shaping the kinds of people they will become.
Specifically, as their Language Arts teacher, I am committed to helping students grow in their abilities to communicate and express themselves competently and appropriately, as this is a soft skill that will follow them to the workplace and beyond. We will do this mainly through two efforts - studying texts by authors we love and admire, reading as a writer and learning to apply some of their strategies in our own writing, and also by writing a lot ourselves. This year we will write for many purposes and audiences. We will compose personal narratives, expository or informative writing, a long-term research paper, poetry, different kinds of letters, persuasive writing, and imaginative stories.
I love teaching, reading, and being with my family most, but a few of my other favorites are my sisters, coffee, dark chocolate, red poppies, giraffes, and a good felt tip pen!
I'm looking forward to a great year with you!
