Mr. Christopher Fatheree

Going into my 13th year at Pearland High School, I am excited to see how the 2017/2018 school year unfolds!

My ultimate goal as an educator and the goal of this course is to facilitate an increased aptitude in both compositional and analytical applications of language across a variety of topics and issues. A greater capacity for the use and manipulation of language will undoubtedly catalyze an array of abilities that stem from such a proficiency and pay enormous dividends to those seeking academic recognition. Experience has shown, however, that any significant degree of success is mostly determined by the individual student's willingness to commit the time and intellectual energy needed to fully engage the process. Without such commitment, the process lacks purpose and the results are predictable.

Students who are taking Advanced Placement classes are seeking greater challenges and greater rewards. The tremendous GPA advantage along with the potential for college credit offer some valuable incentives. With the rising costs of college education, the rewards associated with success in Advanced Placement become more and more valuable each passing year. Of course, commensurate with these rewards are the difficulties and demands of Advanced Placement classes.

My professional philosophy is to welcome all students who are willing to challenge themselves to succeed at this level, and I will go out of my way to provide each individual student with the tools and opportunities needed for success. But ultimately, as with most of our endeavors, success is a byproduct of an individual's level of interest combined with the intensity of his/her effort. I will do my best to encourage both, but I cannot provide them. No doubt, persistence and dedication on the part of the student can pay enormous dividends down the line - despite the difficulties of the curriculum or the demands of a given assignment.

In my personal life, I have a variety of hobbies and interests reflecting a fascination with the arts and different forms of creative expression. I have an equal love of philosophy and politics (especially when it might be called "conspiracy") and enjoy finding new ways to evaluate the world in which we live. Admittedly, after 13 years of marriage to my wonderful wife, Jorrie, I have become accustom to being wrong, so I am usually humble in the face of any challenging or complex issue. And I never dominate the remote control.

....Unless it's absolutely necessary!
