WORK-BASED TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
APPLICATION REQUIRED
All of the courses below meet all PE Credit requirements for graduation.
Enrollment in the first semester of these courses is required for enrollment in the second semester.
Business Education Career Preparation I (3 credits)
(Can be taken as an independent elective or as part of the Academy of Finance)
(Only the 3 credit course can count as Tech Prep, ATC College Credit, and a DAP measure)
Earn and learn in this office co-op course while working a minimum of 15 hours a week with such companies as NASA, KEMLON, Lockheed-Martin and with professionals, such as doctors and lawyers. Learn in both classroom and office settings about human relation skills, leadership, computer applications, records management, appropriate dress, body language, networking skills, communication skills, community involvement, and how to prepare for both college and the world of work.
The coordinator must approve the training stations. Both the coordinator and the employer will evaluate the students. Daily attendance and reliable transportation are mandatory. Membership in the national organization of Business Professionals of America is encouraged.

Business Education Career Preparation II (3 credits)
(Can count as ATC College Credit and a DAP measure)
This course is a continuation of Business Education Career Preparation I. However, the student is no longer considered a trainee but is expected to be a fully effective employee. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) training will be provided in this course to prepare students to become Microsoft certified at either a proficient or expert level. Pearland High School is an iQcenter (Authorized Testing Center for Microsoft certifications). Students are encouraged to be active members of the Business Professionals of America.

Family and Consumer Science Career Prep I (3 credits)
(Can count as Tech Prep Credit and a DAP measure)
This course affords junior and senior students both on-the-job and classroom education in a variety of
occupations. Practical work experiences are provided for the student through part-time employment at a
cooperating business. All training stations must be approved by the teacher-coordinator, and students must
work a minimum of 15 hours each school week. Placement emphasis will be at training stations in Food
Service and Child Care Aide. Membership in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is
encouraged.

Industrial Cooperative Training I (3 credits)
ICT prepares students for gainful employment in the industrial field. The instructor must approve training stations. Students work at their approved training stations at least 15 hours per week. In ICT class, students learn technical and related information pertaining to their jobs as well as skills and attitudes necessary for success. Students must have reliable transportation to their training stations. Students are expected to be active members of Skills USA.

Marketing Dynamics Career Prep I (3 Credits)
(Can be taken as an independent elective or as part of the Academy of Finance)

Marketing Dynamics is a yearlong course, which prepares students for careers in the marketing field.
Students attend school in the morning and work at their approved training stations at least 15 hours per
school week. In marketing class students learn the basic concepts and skills for marketing and business
careers. Emphasis will be placed on marketing functions, merchandising, selling, and communications. The
coordinator, prior to entering the course, must approve training stations. Students not employed prior to
school will have only 10 school days to secure employment in an approved training station. Both the
coordinator and the employer will evaluate students. Students in this program will prepare for the National Retail Federation Customer Service certification. Membership in DECA, an association of Marketing Education
Students, is encouraged.

Marketing Management Career Prep II (3 credits)
(Can count as ATC College Credit and a DAP measure)
This second year course is designed for the more mature and experienced marketing student that has successfully completed Marketing Dynamics Career Prep I. During the classroom phase, the student builds on the basic marketing concepts acquired in Marketing Dynamics Career Prep I. The student will manage the school-based enterprise lab (school store) and participate in a videotaped sales presentation, a simulation of operating a business, building displays, and develop marketing, management, and promotional plans. On the job, the student is no longer considered a "trainee", but is expected to contribute similarly to the organization as any other employee. Students must have an approved training station and work at least 15 hours per school week. Students in this program will prepare for the National Retail Federation Customer Service certification and will be encouraged to take this national exam. Membership in DECA, an association of Marketing Education Students, is encouraged.
