BPA Community Service Project

The PHS students in Business Professionals of America made 100 Easter Baskets and delivered them to the residents of the Trinity Oaks Senior Living Community on April 3, 2007.  The BPA club collected bunnies from students at the high school and some of the BPA students donated money to help purchase the goodies to fill the baskets.  However, the project's largest financial contribution came from WalMart on FM 518.  They donated $700 for this community outreach project.

Pearland High School TeenCERT program

is excited to announce the following names of the 14 juniors selected for the Spring 2007 training class: 

Vickie T., Kyle L., Taylor N., Denise B., Tempestt K., Joseph R., Danielle V., Amber M., Kirnisha B., Tyler H., Kelly C., Heather R., Candace F., and Whitney R.. 

These selected students will participate in the spring, 2007 six-week TeenCERT Community Emergency Response Training training program with the Harris County Center for Safe and Secure Schools. Upon successful completion, the students will become eligible to join the national Citizens Corps and gain community service hours through participation in Pearland adult CERT training classes and other emergency preparedness opportunities associated with Pearland High School.

Medical Science

Over the course of a March, 2007 class day, 87 Sophomore - Senior level PHS Medical Science Technology 1 students in Ms. Clay’s classes, using a grid outlined with painter’s tape, built a proportional model of the human heart and associated major blood vessels.

Congratulations to Mary M. for winning second place in the Concepts of Healthcare Knowledge Exam and Leslie J. for winning 3rd place in Interviewing Skills at HOSA State competition.  Both of these students have qualified for the National Competition.

Robotics Club Competition

Caleb S. and Yuchen L. competed in the high school arena competition.  They had to go head to head against other teams.  The challenge was to remove the debris (spam) from their area while moving the survivors (Dr. Pepper) to a cd in their area.  There was a 2 minute time limit.

John L., Jesse C., Khathy T., Michelle J., Hannah G. and Sarah D. competed in the junior arena competition.  They had the same challenge but just had to keep the survivors in their area.  They did not have to try to place on the cd.  They finished 5th.

Jake T., Matthew B., Thomas M., Patrick C. and Allen D. participated in the inventor division.  They addressed the number of auto accidents and ways to prevent them.  They created road “strips” that would control the speed of their car.  They used blue tooth technology to keep their car from running traffic lights.  They used sonar sensor to keep their car from running into other objects.  They finished as one of the top 6 inventions presented.
