FPS state and international winners recognized at school board meeting

Breaking out research skills and thinking caps, Pearland ISD students won three top spots worldwide during the FPS international conference in Indiana June 7-10, while teams and individuals snagged eight top awards during the state bowl.

FPS International Conference:

• Lucia Zhan (Dawson High School): 1st place International Alternate Middle Division
• Shannon Wu (DHS): 1st place International Alternate Senior Division
• Akshaya Annapragada (Pearland Junior High West): Individual 2nd place International Community Problem Solving Intermediate Division

FPS State Bowl:

• Lucia Zhan: 1st place State Presentation of Action Plan Middle Division
• Akshaya Annapragada: Individual Grand Champion State Community Problem Solving Intermediate Division
• Rima Patel (Pearland High School): Grand Champion State Community Problem Solving Senior Individual
• Shivam Dave (PHS): 1st place State Individual Competition Senior Division
• Chaitanya Lavu (Sablatura Middle School): 2nd place State Individual Competition Junior Division
• Karun Salvady, Nakul Rao, Pujarini Maiti and Sohan Gadkari (DHS): 3rd place Intermediate Booklet Competition and 1st place Presentation of Action Plan Intermediate Division
• Brandon Hall, Irene Cofie, Matthew Zhao and Sephra Thomas (DHS): 3rd place Senior Booklet Competition and 2nd place Presentation of Action Plan Senior Division
• Annie Zhang (DHS): 1st place State Presentation of Action Plan

Coaches included Alicia Lauve, Mark Dunk, Larry Berger, Ruth Dinhobl and Judy Sisk.

FPS engages students in creative problem-solving, with more than 250,000 participants annually from the U.S., Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Singapore and Turkey.

In 2000, Pearland ISD launched the program at campuses, providing more opportunities for students to prepare for life in a global community.
