Brooke McCumpsey and Kathryn Barnett
|
Pearland ISD recently celebrated a first with two seniors earning their associate degrees before their high school diplomas.
Dual degree program students Brooke McCumpsey from Dawson High School and Kathryn Barnett from Pearland High School earned associate of arts degrees from Alvin Community College in December and May, respectively.
When they graduated from high school, McCumpsey and Barnett had already earned more than 60 hours of college credit. They are the first Pearland ISD students to earn associate degrees from ACC before finishing their high school classes.
McCumpsey plans to pursue athletic training and medical studies, while Barnett is interested in hotel management and business administration.
In addition to saving students thousands in tuition, dual credit programs expose them to the rigorous studies and high expectations found in college.
