District pursues college, career high school on Bailey Road

To maximize options for students and parents, Pearland ISD is pursuing a college and career high school to open at the Bailey Road Facility in fall 2013.

Approved by the board in April, this third high school would....
• Relieve enrollment at Pearland and Dawson high schools
• Provide new opportunities for students to achieve college credits and career certifications

Students would choose to attend the campus rather than being zoned there.

In addition, students would continue to participate in fine arts and athletics at PHS or DHS, with transportation provided between their home campus and the third high school.

Pearland ISD plans to partner with area colleges and local businesses for equipment, supplies and training expertise, in turn producing graduates with career-ready skills for the area workforce.

In addition to saving students thousands in college tuition dollars, the campus would provide flexibility for programs to adapt to the changing job market and student interest.

Of more than 7,000 students and parents surveyed this spring, the majority -- 86 percent of parents and 75 percent of students -- supported a college and career high school.

Possible Fields of Study:
• Medical
• Information Technology
• Agriculture Science
• Radio/TV/Video Communications
