Cantu to take reins at Carleston

Dr. Faviola Cantu

Carleston Elementary welcomes Dr. Faviola Cantu as its new principal this fall.

Cantu holds a doctorate in executive leadership from the University of Houston. She has taught second- and fourth-grade bilingual students for five years and served three years as the assistant principal of Franklin Elementary in Houston ISD.

She is passionate about giving every student an opportunity to excel, especially as she helps to implement the pilot dual language program at Carleston this fall.

"I love watching students light up when they grasp a concept or the joy they have when they answer a question correctly. Working in education is a very rewarding career -- you learn something new every day," she said.

Cantu replaces Carleston principal Katherine Drago, who retired this spring.
