How to Follow Instructions:

  1. Look at the person.
  2. Say "Yes ma'am" or "Yes sir."
  3. Do what you've been asked to do right away.
  4. Check back if necessary.

How to Disagree Appropriately:

  1. Look at the person.
  2. Use a pleasant voice.
  3. Say "I understand how you feel."
  4. Tell why you feel differently.
  5. Give a reason.
  6. Listen to the other person.

How to Accept Criticism:

  1. Look at the person.
  2. Say "Yes ma'am" or "Yes sir."
  3. Don't Argue.

How to Make a Request:

  1. Look at the person.
  2. Use a clear, pleasant voice tone.
  3. Explain exactly what you are asking for, using "Please..."
  4. If the answer is "Yes," say "Thank you."
  5. If the answer is "No," remember accepting "No" for an answer.

Accepting "No" for an Answer:

  1. Look at the person.
  2. Say "Yes ma'am" or "Yes sir."
  3. Stay calm.
  4. If you disagree, ask later.

How to Get the Teacher's Attention Appropriately:

  1. Look at the teacher.
  2. Raise hand and stay calm.
  3. Wait until the teacher calls your name.
  4. Ask your question.

How to Greet Someone:

  1. Look at the person.
  2. Use a pleasant voice.
  3. Say "Hi" or "Hello."

When a guest enters the classroom:

  1. Acknowledge the guest with a smile.
  2. Continue activity already in progress.
  3. Speak to guest only if guest speaks to you first.
  4. After guest leaves, be proud of yourself for not allowing distractions.
