Is the 2008 Graduation really going to be held at The Rig? What happens if it rains?
Yes, 2008 Graduation ceremony for Pearland High School will be June 6 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Rig.
Unfortunately, Reliant Stadium is not available to PHS for June 6, 2008 graduation. In response to legislative changes mandating a later start date for school, the PHS published graduation date is June 6 rather than the historical end-of-May date. The district explored several options including alternative sites and dates. To accommodate the expected 8,000 attendees on June 6, the board chose to follow recommendations of PHS staff and hold graduation June 6 at the Rig.
The district is working on options to use in case of rain.
I would appreciate it if the football schedule for Dawson H.S. would be on the Dawson Web site.
The games are listed on the Pearland ISD calendar and the Dawson HS athletic page.
Why is Dawson High School using the Rig at all? They only have freshman and sophomore football teams. Also why change the name of and the stadium? Won't it have to be changed back when Dawson opens? Won't they have a field of they own for the new campus?
Dawson HS DOES NOT have a field. Both coaches have agreed to keep the name of the main stadium "The Rig," even though, technically, it is Pearland Stadium. Most districts with multiple high schools have one central stadium. This helps districts control costs. When Dawson HS starts varsity competition next year the field will be continue to be called "The Rig." Each ticket booth gate will have an Oiler or Eagle insignia on it. Other sports will have their own field. The only other sport that might use the "Rig" is soccer.
I have two children who attend Pearland High School. The lunch bell rang while they were still in the lunch line.
The first day of school PHS experienced long lunch lines. All students were allowed to remain in the cafeteria until they had finished eating. All students were given passes to classes. PHS Principal Michele Staley also made announcements to admit students to class.
The second day of school, food services provided additional staff to PHS. All students were able to get their lunch in ample time to eat and get to class.
Who determines what songs will be included in the prancer spring show?
The Prancer director, Holly Kvapil, is responsible for the content of the spring show.
Does Pearland High School recognize their top 10 students at the graduation for the class of 2007?
Graduating in the top ten percent of the class is a great accomplishment representing dedication and hard work.
Pearland ISD honors top ten graduates by highlighting their names in the graduation program; displaying a single honor cord over their graduation attire; presenting them with an academic excellence medal; and giving them a special certificate at the Senior Awards Ceremony.
Will the students who voluntarily transferred to Massey Ranch last year be able to attend Massey Ranch again next year?
Students who transferred to Massey Ranch in August of 2006 will attend Massey Ranch until they complete fourth grade.
Why are some elementary schools allowed to have field trips and others are not? Is it a budget issue?
Field trip decisions are made by each campus. Contact your child’s teacher or campus administrator for details about their field trips.
Hi I am a student at PJHS and I love the school. The teachers and staff are nice. Why does the time between classes have to be four minutes? It is hard to get from one side of the building to the other in this amount of time. It is pretty hard to get through and with the new bell schedule will this time be affected? PJHS Student
PJHS will continue to have a four-minute passing time. Principal Brad Brown, feels the four-minute passing time has been very successful as it gives the students sufficient time to arrive to class. He reports that there are fewer students who are tardy to classes now than with the previous bell schedule. Mr. Brown says that because of academic teaming, core classes are located close to each other, most right next door to each other. Having a four-minute passing time provides students and teachers with more instructional time.
