- Pearland
ISD Bond Election 2001 is one proposition for a total of $41
million.
- PISD Bond
Election 2001 includes middle school number 3 for $14.5 million,
elementary school number 9 for $13 million, district-wide improvements
for $7.5 million, technology updates for $2 million, and the
Pearland Academic Center for Education (PACE) for $4 million.
- PISD Bond
Election 2001 is being driven by the need for middle school number
3. The two existing middle schools are at capacity NOW and portable
buildings have been placed on both Jamison and Sablatura Middle
School campuses. Portable buildings add only classroom space.
They do nothing to increase the size of the library , the cafeteria,
restrooms, gymnasiums and other campus infrastructure. Portable
buildings cannot be paid for out of bond funds. They must be
purchased out of the maintenance and operation budget of the
district. The maintenance and operation budget is already at
the maximum allowed by the Texas Legislature, which is $1.50
per $100 valuation.
- PISD Bond
Election 2001 second need is for a ninth elementary school. An
850 lot residential development and a 300 unit apartment complex
will add an estimated 2,100 students to the district.
- PISD Bond
Election 2001 requests district-wide improvements. With the maintenance
and operation tax rate at the maximum, it is impossible to make
needed repairs and replacement for parking lots, air conditioning,
and roofing out of the general operating budget. District-wide
improvements target buildings that are 25 to 30 years old. As
with any home or business, school buildings must be maintained.
- PISD Bond
Election 2001 asks for technology upgrades in order to comply
with Texas Education Agency requirement for a student to computer
ratio of 3 to 1.
- PISD Bond
Election 2001 would allow the district to open an alternative
school (Pearland Academic Center for Education or PACE). This
is not a school for "bad" kids but is for those students
who are at-risk for dropping out of school for a variety of reasons
(i.e., death or divorce of parent(s), teen pregnancy, social
adjustment issues, or low TAAS scores). Students will have to
apply to gain entry into the school.
- PISD Bond
Election 2001 will increase taxes by just 2 cents in 2002 and
1 cent in 2003.
