| Massey Ranch Elementary / What Is IB? |
What is IB? IB stands for International Baccalaureate, a philosophy of teaching. Pearland ISD is in the process of applying for the International Baccalaureate Organization’s authorization at Massey Ranch Elementary School. The IBO has programs on three levels: (1) Diploma (for high school), (2) Middle Years (MYP) and (3) Primary Years (PYP). Massey Ranch is pursuing the Primary Years Programme, which is a philosophy of teaching, not a specific program or curriculum. The PYP provides a framework based on best teaching practices for elementary school instruction. Every child on the campus will be a part of PYP as the students are taught to understand the inquiry process. PYP is designed using the “whole school approach”. Through the inquiry process, teachers will plan units of instruction based on six organizing themes across the academic disciplines. The units are based on our curriculum and TEKS, and they take into consideration the development of skills, knowledge and attitudes, and key concepts. The Massey Ranch staff will receive extensive training in developing planners and using guided inquiry methods. For additional information about the International Baccalaureate Organization visit the IBO web site at www.ibo.org. Monthly IB Board Reports
