As we wrestle with the inequality of state
funding for public schools, one thing is clear: Texas
students do not have equal access to educational
dollars. While we face some difficult decisions,
providing a quality education remains our top priority.

international tourney |
| Pearland
ISD students recently swept the Future Problem-Solving
Program state bowl in Austin. The district
boasted first-place teams in senior and
intermediate divisions, an individual grand champion in
the senior division and individual state champs in
intermediate and junior divisions. First- and
second-place winners will advance to the international

| Dare to Excel helps future
leaders follow dreams |
The Pearland community awarded $31,500 in
scholarships to 57 Pearland High School students at the
Dare to Excel Scholarship Luncheon April 8. Local
businesses, organizations and private
individuals funded the scholarships. Dare to
Excel sponsors included Pearland Rotary Club, 288
Corridor Rotary Club and First United Methodist
Church. |

Over 60 teachers, principals, employees and
paraprofessionals will take the spotlight at the
2008 Pearland ISD awards celebration May 9.
Campuses, departments and staff chose these individuals
as nominees and honorees for
district awards. For the list of nominees and

| Duke University recognizes
junior high students |
Twenty-four Pearland ISD students achieved
grand- and state-level recognition in the 2007-08 Duke
University Talent Identification Program. The program
recognizes students who score high on the SAT and ACT.

| K-12 Planet updates end May
28 |
|
The K-12 Planet parent portal will be updated
through May 28 for this school year. There will be no
updates from May 29 through Aug. 24. Elementary students
will take their report cards home the last day
of school (June 5), and middle school, junior high and
high school report cards will be mailed by June 13.
School offices will keep copies of the report
cards. K-12 updates will resume Aug. 25.

| Pearland High School seniors
will graduate at the Rig, the district's football
stadium, June 6, 7-9 p.m. If it rains, students will be
split into two groups for ceremonies at 5 and 7 p.m. in
the PHS north campus

statement |
| The board of trustees thanks
the following individuals for submitting sample vision
statements for the district: Teresa Dela
Mater, Amy Sabalesky
and Dr. David A. Watson. Trustees
will announce the new statement at their May 13 regular
meeting. |
