Program Summaries

Elementary Schools
More than 7,000 students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade are served by eleven Pearland Independent School District elementary campuses. A diversified curriculum stresses fine arts, language arts, math, science, physical education and social studies. Counseling and diagnostic services are available to ensure that children are placed in the best atmosphere for their individual maturation and learning levels.

The gifted and talented program, special services and computer learning are some of the offerings that begin at the elementary level. Bilingual studies are provided for students who do not speak English as their primary language.

The Parent-Teacher Association offers many activities and volunteers many hours at the elementary level. Parents, grandparents, and community members are always welcome to share their time and talents at the elementary schools.

Middle Schools
Pearland Independent School District has four middle schools that serve students in the fifth and sixth grades.

Through the implementation of a broad offering of programs ranging from gifted and talented to the physically and mentally impaired, as well as co-curricular activities, the middle school education is not only academically and socially appropriate, but challenging.

Junior High Schools
The three junior high schools in Pearland Independent School District serve more than 2,500 students in grades seven and eight who live within the district. Two eighteen-week semesters provide students with the opportunity for instruction in basic skills while allowing them to explore electives.

Aside from the core curriculum of language arts, math, science, social studies, and reading, there are elective courses which benefit the students and prepare them for making more significant choices at the high school level. Electives include keyboarding, homemaking, band, choir, art, computer literacy, athletics, theater arts and Spanish.

High Schools
Pearland Independent School District is served by two high schools encompassing a diverse number of programs, students and professionals. Two high schools offer comprehensive programs for over 4,000 students in grades 9 - 12.

Through their high school education, students develop self-confidence and self-understanding while achieving pride in their performance. Recognized as individuals, students develop skills and abilities which make them better able to deal with their teachers, community and eventual work environment.

The Student Council promotes a cooperative spirit to better relationships with administrative personnel, teachers, and other students. Yearbook, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Fellowship of Student Athletes, Good Sportsmanship League, Thespian Society and Texas Association of Future Educators are just a few of the organizations at the high school level.

Throughout the year, activities and contests are held in conjunction with academic and co-curricular involvements. Band, choir, drill team, career and technology, literary, and athletic organizations routinely hold competitions. Athletic offerings include basketball, baseball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis track, and volleyball.

"Project Graduation" is a community-sponsored event for graduating seniors. This all-night party is drug and alcohol free.

More information on the school or the offerings may be obtained by contacting the counseling office. Curriculum information, graduation requirements and more are provided in the student and curriculum handbooks.
