Citizens and Police...A partnership for a safer community

The Pearland Police Department School Resource Officer Unit was formed in 1995, with the vision of having City of Pearland Police Officers trained and certified as School Resource Officers. These officers specific and full time job assignment is to provide Law Enforcement services to The Pearland Independent School District. This allows specially trained officers to provide quality service to the district and students, making it unnecessary for the district to create, fund and operate their own Law Enforcement Agency. The first Pearland Police Officer was assigned to the unit in 1995. This officer was responsible for two Jr High Schools. As a result of Department of Justice Grants (COPS AHEAD) and the cooperation of the City of Pearland and PISD the unit began to grow. A second officer was brought into the unit putting one officer in each Jr High. A few years later two more officers were brought into the unit and were assigned to Pearland High School . Presently we have Ten (10) officers assigned to various schools within the district. Each SRO is dedicated to our mission and takes pride in their assignment. The SRO Unit is a part of the Pearland Police Department Patrol Division and is supervised by Lieutenant Mike Vance.
