Hello, Silverlake Star family!! I am Mrs. Karen Young, the “Caring Counselor” at Silverlake Elementary. I will be interacting with many of you and your children this school year.
First and foremost, it is my responsibility to help your child achieve academically and develop socially. Every child at Silverlake will develop into a well rounded student by learning various character education lessons throughout the year. This means learning how to get along with their peers, making good decisions, controlling anger, accepting responsibility, being aware of their strengths and weaknesses, learning test taking strategies, and developing self-control. These skills will be taught by individual, small-group or classroom guidance counseling. I am also here to help students who are facing any family difficulties. If your family is experiencing anything out of the ordinary, please let me know. We can work together in resolving the problem. One of my major functions is to be of help to parents. If you have a particular concern about your child, I welcome the opportunity to conference with you to discuss the matter. It is important to remember that school personnel and parents working together are a winning combination for our children.
