RISE seeking mentors
Do you have 30 minutes a week to make a lasting impact on a child’s life?
Pearland Independent School District’s RISE Mentoring is entering its third year and invites caring, committed community members to help students rise above obstacles to succeed in school and in life.
The 2016-17 school year ended with 318 students from pre-k to 12th grade matched with a mentor.
Mentors commit to meet with their mentee for 30 minutes one day a week. All mentoring happens at the student’s campus during the school day. Mentors are committing to stay with their mentee for the duration of the school year. If the mentor and mentee would then like to stay together past this school year, they are encouraged to do so.
To become a RISE mentor you must complete an application, online background check and register for one of the mentor trainings. You can find links to all on the website: www.pearlandisd.org/mentoring. All mentor trainings take place at the Virgil Gant Education Support Center, 1928 N. Main.
Trainings and matching will continue through February of this school year.
If your company or organization would like a RISE Mentor team member to come to your workplace to train a group of new mentors or to just briefly share information about RISE, please contact RISE Mentor Specialist Mandy Benedix at 281-485-3203 to set up a training date.
“We believe that every child is one caring adult away from being a success story.” Benedix said.
Help change a student’s story today and become a RISE mentor.
