Summer Kindergarten Acceleration and Credit by Examination Testing

Kindergarten Acceleration

Assessment for acceleration from kindergarten into first grade is a process available to Pearland ISD students. A child who demonstrates exceptional abilities may be considered for enrollment in the first grade if the following criteria are met:

  • Eligibility Requirement: A child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current year to be eligible to take the advanced placement exams. In addition, the child must be enrolled in Pearland ISD schools for the 2017-18 school year.
  • Application Procedure: Parents interested in kindergarten acceleration for their child should make an appointment to discuss this option with the student’s principal and/or counselor. The parent must complete and submit the application form for kindergarten acceleration to the zoned elementary campus office by 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. This test will be administered on June 5, and this will be the only date for testing -- no exceptions. Since the purpose of testing is to determine academic strengths prior to formal instruction, Pearland ISD does not provide study materials or furnish textbooks.

Credit by Examination for Acceleration

Credit by Examination is for students in grades 1-12 who have not had previous instruction in the grade and/or course. These tests can be used to accelerate a student from one grade to the next or from one course to the next. To be eligible to accelerate, a student must score at or above the 80th percentile in each subject tested.

Registration forms must be submitted to your child’s counselor or principal by Wednesday, April 27, 2 p.m., for the June administration.

The deadline to register for the July administration is Wednesday, May 24.

For registration forms or further information, please contact your school counselor or visit www.pearlandisd.org/Page/357.
