Junior high bands and choirs excel in UIL competitions
The four Pearland ISD junior high bands and choirs have much to be proud of with a recent accomplishment that marks district history.
All 23 bands and choirs from Berry Miller, Pearland Junior High East, Pearland Junior High South and Pearland Junior High West received a first division rating for the concert portion of the Region 19 UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contests held last month at Channelview and Deer Park high schools.
In addition, 20 of the bands and choirs received a first division rating in both concert and sight reading which earned them the prestigious sweepstakes award.
“This is a unique and very special accomplishment, because if you research the archives you will not find another district that was able to achieve what the Pearland ISD junior high music program did this year,” Tom Bell, Pearland ISD director of fine arts, said. “It speaks volume to the quality of teaching and learning that we have on our campuses. Truly great teacher are teaching amazing students that are fully supported by their campus and district administration. This is one of those things that is rare and I have to pause and reflect on how lucky we are to be in Pearland ISD.”
