READ 180 Homework|
Homework will look different the second semester. You will see more and more STAAR formatted practice. Please continue to have your child read text aloud to you. This is proven to improve fluency which improves comprehension.
I encourage you to review your child's homework with him/her before returning it. Homework that is done incorrectly is not valuable. Show your child how to correctly answer questions by referring to the text for evidence. In class your child hears the words "text evidence" and "proof" and "text support" constantly. Over 90% of the STAAR test questions will require your child to infer the answer from clues in the text. The answers are seldom stated directly in the text. Your child must read carefully and locate clues about the question. Piecing together the puzzle of clues to make the correct inference is difficult takes practice.
I realize that your time is precious, but I encourage you to make homework interactive between you and your child. Your child's reading will improve and their confidence will increase.
