Dear Parents and Friends,
It is hard to believe that we are sending out our final newsletter for the 2011-2012 school year! This year has moved so quickly, and with June just around the corner, we are already looking ahead to next year. Our 4th graders are invited to visit their assigned middle schools on May 10, at 7:00 p.m., for parent/student orientation. Beginning on July 23, all current students will need to complete the online enrollment process, which can be found at www.pearlandisd.org.
I want to briefly touch on a few events our students are looking forward to this month. Third-grade students will take their field trip to the Health Museum on May 4th. Mrs. Vervalin, our school counselor, will sponsor College and Career Day on May 11th, and the Talent Show performances are scheduled for May 18th. Hoopla Day, which is one of the most anticipated events of the school year, will be held on May 25th. We hope you can volunteer for some of these exciting activities!
Next year, our school theme will be Wild about Learning. Even though we look forward to this fun new theme, we want to continue to promote recycling and what we learned through this year’s theme. Our school will continue to accept PETE 1 plastic containers, paper, cardboard, and printer cartridges. Protecting the environment will always remain important, so a new idea that I would like to implement for next year is to email the monthly newsletters to you. This will save several boxes of paper and ink cartridges. If you prefer a paper copy of the Harris Herald, you may request one or come by the office and pick up a copy. The newsletters will also be posted on our campus website along with the teachers’ Peek of the Weeks.
One last reminder for the month of May: please help the PTA as we thank our teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 7th through 11th). Give an apple, flowers from the garden, home baked treats, or just a big hug and a “thank you” to your teachers. Teachers, the people who educate us and give us the vital knowledge that we need to live our lives, deserve to be celebrated this week. They encourage, support, discipline, and prepare us for the road ahead. Now it’s time to show them how important they are to us.
