Music Explorers (4th grade only)
The CJ Harris Music Explorers program
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as a musical child prodigy
The CJ Harris Music Explorers program:
Is for students who wish to learn more about music and to be recognized for extra effort. It is not connected to any grades and not required!
Students who choose to complete all three requirements will be recognized at the end-of-the-year awards ceremony.
The requirements for this program are divided into three areas, as follows.
1. Music History and Culture:
Complete a Composer Poster using a selected classical composer. Present to regular music class at any time during the year.
Poster must contain at least these elements:
- Composer's Name
- Photo, Portrait, or Drawing of Composer
- Birth and Death Date (if applicable)
- Important historical event that happened during the composer’s lifetime
- What Time Period? (Baroque, Romantic, Etc.)
- Three Famous Works (Example: Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro)
2. Music Appreciation:
Attend one music concert or musical theatre event during the school year and write a review of the performance using a form, similar to a book review. The form is available for download on this website. The Pearland ISD website has dates and times for concerts at Rogers, Berry Miller, Dawson, and other schools. Students are encouraged to seek out free concerts and performances; however, any professional music or theatre event would count also.
3. Music Performance:
Attain “blue belt” level or higher on the recorder.
