What is Pearland ISD currently doing to keep students, staff and the community safe?
After consulting with health officials, Governor Abbott’s announcement, along with President Trump’s announcement to extend social distancing through April 30, Pearland ISD is joining other area school districts in extending the suspension of normal operations at least until Monday, May 4, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Given the uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation, we will continue to work closely with local, state and federal leaders implementing their stay-at-home directives. The health of Pearland ISD students, staff and community is the district’s top priority and we are working to ensure students have access to remote learning to continue to participate in learning activities from a remote location, outside a school building.
-
What can families do to keep students, staff and the community safe?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol. The President has publicly shared that the community should not gather in groups larger than 10 people in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. Pearland ISD urges all parents, students and staff to follow the social distancing protocols to better ensure the long-term health and safety of all.

-
Will students take the STAAR test in the 2019-20 school year?
No. Given the impact of COVID-19, Governor Greg Abbott used his statutory authority as the governor of Texas under Texas Government Code, §418.016 to suspend annual academic assessment (STAAR) requirements for the remainder of the 2019–2020 school year.

What is remote learning and what will it look like for Pearland ISD students?
Remote learning is providing students with learning opportunities when the teacher is unable to provide face to face instruction to the students. Remote learning website available at: www.pearlandisd.org/online
Remote learning will begin the week of March 23 and it will look different based on grade levels.
For elementary and middle schools, there will be a menu of options. These options will include a variety of learning opportunities for students to choose from – some of these will involve technology but others will not as we know some students may not be able to access a device.
Teachers also know that remote learning in a time like this is unprecedented and so we know that replicating the school day is not possible. Every student’s situation is different, so please know that teachers will be flexible and understanding of student needs. Our number one priority is that all students are safe.
To learn more about remote learning, how it will work, expectations and more, watch this Q&A video with our superintendent Dr. John Kelly and the C&I Department: https://youtu.be/rZI_oChWvx8

My child does not have access to a device or to Wi-Fi to participate in remote learning. What should I do?
