• Textbooks

Pearland ISD has adopted new textbooks to align with the new TEKS.  These textbooks are consumable.  Students will utilize their textbook in the classroom for lessons and note-taking.  Students are encouraged to take their math textbook home for homework and study use.  This will also enable you, the parent, to see what your child is studying on a daily basis, as well as assist with any home assignment and/or studying as needed.

Textbooks may be accessed online if a student forgets his/her binder at school.  Please click on the Online Textbook icon in the top right corner for online access.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at martinca@pearlandisd.org.

  • Homework & Test Information

Homework assignments are posted on the Homework & Tests page.  I will post homework, if any, at the end of each school day.  Please look for your child's HOMEROOM teacher's name for homework I've assigned specifically to that class if the assignment is different from the mass.  It will be posted as HOMEROOM TEACHER Daily.  Daily assignments are due the following school day.  Weekly assignments are due one week from the assigned day.  Click on the link to view the assignment.

I will also post the upcoming tests on the Homework, Quizzes & Tests page as "TEST".  These are the module post tests in math.  Click on the link to see the module/information to be tested.  If we are at the end of a month, please click on the next month for possible test dates.  NOTE: test dates are subject to change due to classroom pacing and may be given on any day of the week.  Students will be given advanced notice of test days.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at martinca@pearlandisd.org.

  • Study Hall Pass

All students have been provided an "AM Study Hall" Pass.  This pass should be stapled to the inside their agenda/planner.  Students may use this pass Thursday and Friday from 8:00AM-8:15AM to come to my classroom in order to complete work for any subject.  They may work on their homework, get one-on-one help from me, work on their Problem of the Week (POTW), work on extra credit, complete FASTT Math lessons, complete TTM lessons, complete assignments (quizzes/tests) from the previous school day, work on assignments from other teachers, etc...the list goes on!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at martinca@pearlandisd.org.

  • Extra Credit

Extra credit is provided to students every week.  Students may complete a Cross Number Puzzle, Kakooma, Perplexor, or Word Wink in order to receive extra credit points.  These rotate every four weeks and are provided to the students in my classroom at the beginning of the week.  Students may get a puzzle to complete on any day of the week and turn it in by Friday to their homeroom teacher's Extra Credit tray in my classroom.  These will be sent home in Thursday folders with the number of points earned for that week's puzzle.  Points will not be adding to specific daily work, homework, or test grades already in Skyward.  Extra credit will be entered in Skyward as one assignment with zero (0) maximum points at the end of the grading period for students who have completed the puzzles.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at martinca@pearlandisd.org.

  • Math Packets

Students will complete a math packet on Fridays.  This will be a compiled homework grade for the week's classwork and/or homework assignments excluding the Math Arc.  Math packets will be sent home for corrections on Thursdays if a student earns a grade below a 70.

A student will receive a "missing assignment" in Skyward due to an absence or homework not completed/turned in on the due date.  If a student has been in attendance all week, the "missing assignment" will be recorded as a zero (0).  If this is the case, they have been instructed to locate their work in the Late Work/Missing Work/Absent Work/Late Work Tray if they've turned it in during that week or to look in their homework folder for the assignment(s) that was/were not handed back to them on Friday.

Students will receive a "missing assignment" in Skyward if they've been absent during the week but it will not be recorded as a zero (0) if their make-up days haven't expired.  Students are responsible for all homework assignments whether they are in class or absent when assigned.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at martinca@pearlandisd.org.

  • Problem of the Week (POTW)

POTWs are sent home the day of a school week (if the week is 4-5 days).  Studetns will receive full credit (100 points) for answering the question(s) correctly (20 points) and providing a written explanation (80 points).  The explanation should be in paragraph form and written on a fifth grade level using complete sentences.  If a student turns in their POTW and the explanation is not a complete paragraph written on a fifth grade level, they will not receive all 80 points for this section of the assignment.  Please keep in mind that the explanation is the bulk of the grade.

  • Pre & Post Tests-ADVANCED CLASSES ONLY

On testing days, students will complete the Post-Test for the completed module from previous classroom instructional days.  They will also complete the Pre-Test for the next module in the textbook.  Curriculum is generally taught in order of the textbook, unless otherwise noted.  I post test dates under the Homework & Tests tab in the left hand column.  I will begin posting the Post-Test and Pre-Test modules students need to study.  Pre-Tests do not go home for parent review prior to the Post-Test date.

    Procedure:

When students earn an "A" (90%-100%) on a Pre-Test, they are considered "Masters" in that module.  Masters have the option to complete one, any, or all of the following: 1) a supplemental assignment on the content being taught that day in class in our hallway...they may work by themselves or with the other Masters to complete this assignment, 2) work on their Problem of the Week (POTW), 3) work on extra credit, 4) complete their FASTT Math lessons, 5) work on MobyMax, or 6) work on assignments/projects for other classes.  All Masters are required to complete the assigned homework.  Masters who do not earn a 100% on their Pre-Test have the opportunity to take the Post-Test to raise their grade.  The higher grade, whether it is the Pre-Test or Post-Test, is the grade recorded in Skyward.

Students who do not earn an "A" on their Pre-Test are considered "Scholars" participants.  Scholars will stay in the classroom with me for clarification on the module content.  This is where I teach the content lessons.  Scholars are responsible for completing the assigned homework.  Scholars complete the Post-Test for the opportunity to raise their grade.  The higher grade, whether  it is the Pre-Test or Post-Test, is the grade recorded in Skyward.
