Senate Bill 530 required all students in grades 3-12 be assessed for physical fitness beginning with the 2007-08 school year. The FITNESSGRAM physical fitness assessment will be administered to all students. FITNESSGRAM is a health-related fitness assessment developed by The Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research and is a research-based criterion referenced test. At Rogers Middle School, we will test students beginning November 2018 during their Physical Education class.
The fitness testing will assess the major components of fitness; strength, flexibility, endurance, and body composition. The FITNESSGRAM test will be administered by staff members and recorded to the state by May 1, 2018. FITNESSGRAM tests all students regardless of age, gender, or ability. Students are encouraged to be self-aware of health-related fitness and take responsibility by setting personal fitness goals. When students focus on the process of doing their personal best, a more positive lifelong impact is achieved.
During your child’s testing period, he/she should bring athletic shorts, a t-shirt, socks, and tennis shoes for PE class. Testing in warm-ups is permitted. If your child forgets proper testing attire, he/she will proceed with the fitness test in standardized dress.
A copy of your child’s physical fitness assessment will be available on the “skyward family access” prior to the end of the school year. If you would like to view the data prior to its availability on the web please email our office after March 15th. We believe by providing you and your child with this health-related fitness information, you can lead your child toward a healthy lifestyle. A healthy student is better prepared to learn and perform in all aspects of life.
