How to Become a Mentor

  • Volunteer 101:RISE Mentoring
    Apply & Criminal Background Check: Volunteers/mentors submit mentor application and volunteer background check application. Part of this application is a criminal background check. Once your application is approved, you will attend training.

    Attend Training: Training will prepare you for how to be the best volunteer/mentor you can be!

    Sign In/Out per Campus Guidelines: Always follow the proper sign-in procedures when visiting a campus. Have your driver's license available on your first visit.

    Report Hours: Make sure to report your volunteer hours on campus sign-in sheet.

    The Process:

    1. Complete mentor application
    2. Complete volunteer background check application
    3. Register to attend a mentor training session to help guide you in becoming a successful mentor. You will be given procedures to follow, tips for working with children and young adults and recommended mentor/mentee activities.

    After filling out mentor application and volunteer background check application, attend one mentor training session prior to being matched with a student.

    • Nov. 12, 9-noon
    • Nov. 27, 9-noon
    • Nov. 27, 1-4 p.m.
    • Dec. 3, 9-noon
    • Dec. 3, 6-9 p.m.
    • Dec. 14, 9-noon

    Training sessions are held at:
    Virgil Gant Education Support Center
    1928 N. Main | Pearland, TX 77581

    *Note: Registration is required for training.
