Instructional programs

Staff Development

  • Sustained staff development to achieve established top priorities
  • Specialist presents and facilitates district-wide teacher training through content-specific academies
  • Specialist provides campus-based embedded training tailored to individual campus needs
  • Specialist assists teachers with implementation and provides ongoing support
  • Use key lead teachers in district training

 

Curriculum

  • Curriculum snapshots and resources that provide targeted TEKS-focused instructional lessons
  • Weekly department meetings with teachers focusing on upcoming curriculum lessons and instructional strategies
  • Maintain Forethought, including online curriculum resources, scope and sequence and model lessons
  • Facilitate implementation of TEKS (learning standards)

 

Assessments

  • Disaggregate and analyze data to provide reports for teachers on student progress
  • Analyze test questions to facilitate discussion with teachers on instructional strategies for each state required TEKS and objective
  • Collaborate with campus staff to create intervention plans
  • The Testing Department supports and coordinates all student assessments (benchmarks, simulations, and state assessments), data analysis, TEA requirements and training

 

Teacher Coaching & Mentoring

  • Specialists visit classrooms and provide model lessons for new teachers, teachers new to Pearland ISD and teachers with specific student needs.
  • Specialists conduct walkthroughs and provide meaningful feedback on instructional practices.
  • Collaborate with teachers on implementation of best-teaching practices to improve student performance

 

District Initiatives

  • Specialists coordinate and/or develop several core content-area district initiatives each year.
