Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Kristi Powitzky
Dear parents/ Guardians,
My name is Kristi Powitzky and I will be your child’s fifth grade science teacher this year. I wanted to take the time to let you know a little bit about myself. I am originally from the state of Maine. I came to Texas to attend Texas A&M. I met my husband, a native Texan, at A&M and have been here ever since. I graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in speech communication and a minor in architecture. A very odd combination and much too long of a story for me to tell in this letter. After working in retail management for several years and volunteering at an elementary school in Pasadena, I decided to go back to school and get a teaching degree. I received my teaching degree from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. I taught for a few years in Pasadena and then in Carrollton Farmers Branch. I then stayed home to raise two fantastic kids, Cullen and Connor. My daughter is a senior at St. Thomas Episcopal High School and my son graduated last year from Emerson College in Boston and is pursuing a career in film in Los Angeles. After staying home for several years, I decided to go back to teaching. I was offered a great opportunity to teach science at Rogers Middle School and I have been here for the last 11 years.
I absolutely love teaching Science. Many students come to the fifth grade with very little science experience and they learn that it’s a subject that they really enjoy because it is very hands on. There is a great deal of new content taught in fifth grade Science and initially some of the new concepts can be challenging. I provide students with many opportunities to both participate in experiments and observe teacher demonstrations. This allows students to not only become more familiar with the content, but they enjoy learning it as well.
I feel very strongly about providing students with an environment that is conducive for learning. My goal is to provide your child with a safe, respectful, structured classroom in which students enjoy learning. I am excited about this year and look forward to working with your child. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have. I am available through email and am also providing information on how to sign up with Remind 101 which is a great communication tool that allows you to send/receive texts with me through the app. Please allow 24 hours for me to respond. I look forward to meeting you all at our Meet the Teacher Night in September.
