In 8th grade reading, we will discover the many genres of fiction, from historical to contemporary to sci-fi and dystopian. We will also explore the art of poetry, which will culminate in a school-wide poetry slam, followed by a drama unit on The Diary of Anne Frank that will conclude with a tour of the Holocaust Museum of Houston.

In  writing, we will learn the fundamentals of writing informational and argumentative essays. We will also explore the many aspects of fiction writing, including short stories and poetry. My goal is that by the end of the year, students will be prepared for rigorous writing projects expected in high school.
