              My name is Clenon Mitchell, Jr. I am the Naval Science Instructor for Glenda Dawson's Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC). I teach the first year cadets and preside over the marksmanship and cyber teams. I served twenty-five years in the US Navy and attained the rank of a Command Master Chief (E-9). I acquired a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering. I also earned a Master of Arts in Management from Webster University. Since the founding of the Pearland Innovative Teaching Grants in 2014, I was the first teacher at Glenda Dawson to be awarded the grant for my Fitness 4 Life program (2016-2017), in the amount of $1,979.00, for our NJROTC cadets.

    2019-2020 JROTC

    The JROTC Program is dedicated to helping shape the cadets into responsible well disciplined citizens.

    The NJROTC program was established by Public Law in 1964 and may be found in Title 10, U.S. Code,and Chapter 102. The program is conducted at accredited secondary schools throughout the nation, by instructors who are retired Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel. The NJROTC curriculum emphasizes citizenship and leadership development, as well as our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation and meteorology. Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by community service activities, drill competitions, field meets, flights,and visits to naval activities, marksmanship training, and other military training. Uniforms, textbooks, training aids,  and travel allowance are provided by the Navy.
