Welcome Parents and Students!

My name is Lan-Dai Chu. I am the Title 1 Reading Teacher for our Title 1 school. This is my 18th year in Pearland I.S.D. I am very fortunate to work alongside the greatest educators in Pearland ISD. I have taught 1st and 3rd grades before becoming the Reading Intervention teacher at Cockrell Elementary. My job is to work with students and teachers. I collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to instill the best reading plans for students K-4th. I believe that reading and writing go hand-in-hand. If you have a passion for reading, then you will have a passion for writing. When I see a child beaming with joy as he/she discovers a new word or new concept, I feel that I am one step closer to my goals as a reading teacher.

I came to America at the age of 5 with my family. We were one of the two Vietnamese families in the growing Latino community in the Westchester part of Miami. As English Learners in the new country, my parents were determined for our family to assimilate to the American culture quickly. At home we would only speak to each other in Vietnamese. At night we would sit together as a family of seven and read books we had checked out from our school and public libraries. The passion for reading was instilled in me at an early age by my parents and teachers.  Maybe that is why I love to teach reading (and writing)!

As I welcome you into the new school year 2020-2021, I want you to know that my uppermost plan is to practice safety and learning enrichment for my students. Once safety is in place, I believe learning to read and write will be a smooth transition for all students. It will be a new challenging and exciting school year where we will learn new things together. As the African proverb states, "It takes a village to raise a child."

If you need to contact me, or set up a Parent-Teacher Conference, please feel free to send me an email. I look forward to a successful and safe school year!
