Mr. Mitchell's Website
Introducing Mr. Mitchell
Welcome to my website for my classes at Rogers Middle School! This is my 10th year teaching middle school, between 5th and 6th grade, and almost 16 years in education total! I am married and have one daughter who attends one of the amazing Pearland Schools in the district! In my spare time, I like sports, to work out, and I like to read (if I have time!). I've taught grades from elementary, to middle school, even junior high level and love my middle school students and their individual unique perspectives on the two subjects I teach. I like to be very creative, hands-on, and learn by doing so that's why I love teaching Science and Social Studies. Both of these subjects are very collaborative and thought-provoking as they bring out creative ideas, interesting thoughts, and inquisitive minds to become HEROES WHO COMPLETE MY ASSIGNMENTS!
I teach 5th grade Science and Social Studies on TEAM 5T, who will all BE HEROES IN THE MAKING! This website will give you valuable resources to assist you in my classroom, as well as give you information on grading, tutorials and my conference times. The tab for class calendar will update for important days when major grades are being taken. There is also a tab for QUICK LINKS which lists websites to review Social Studies content (as well as other content areas) such as games, videos, and other links. We have many exciting things coming soon, so be sure to check back on my page often to keep up!
My conference time is
10:15-10:45 each day.
(Please try to schedule by email or phone
at least 2 days ahead if possible)
Parent and Student Information
Folders will be sent home every Thursday with important information such as graded work, work that needs corrections, accolades, and conduct cards. Conduct cards must be signed and returned NO LATER than Friday the same week.
Parents please remember to check SKYWARD to keep updated on the grades your child is receiving. We have shown all our students how to check SKYWARD themselves so they may stay on top of their work while becoming more independent.
If a student is absent, it is the student's responsibility to get absent work, activities, notes, or tests from the teacher or designated folder in the classroom.
WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, and FRIDAY
8:00 a.m. - 8:25 a.m.
(PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PASS TO COME DOWN THE HALLWAY IN THE MORNING IF YOU NEED TUTORING)
WEEKLY CHECK IN for CLASS
October 7th - October 11th
(ASTROS Vs. Rays Playoffs Begin!)
****COLOR CHANGES THIS WEEK TO SUPPORT OUR ASTROS!!!!****
This week we are talking about CIRCUITS and how they work. We will deal with open and closed circuits, and what makes a circuit work or "light." We will work with station activities and creating our own circuits with SNAP CIRCUITS or just creating some with paper. Our lessons on CIRCUITS will take us into next week because of the three day upcoming weekend students will have. NO VOCABULARY TEST THIS FRIDAY BUT THERE WILL BE A MAJOR TEST AGAIN NEXT WEEK OVER CIRCUITS!
This week in Social Studies we will be continuing our discussion of early explorers and their explorations! We have begun our discussion about the SOCIAL STUDIES PROJECT THAT WILL BE A MAJOR GRADE FOR OUR CLASS. Students have been given an outline/rubric of what is expected on the project and if they lose it they may find a copy on my QUICK LINKS PAGE to print out. I want to make sure they have a copy of the information so that they are checking off everything they need for the project. If they do not understand something about the project they may come in to tutoring for help on their project at any time!
**SOCIAL STUDIES EXPLORER PROJECT DUE DATE IS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16th!!!!!!**
Please let me know of any questions or do not understand something your student is working on in my class.
