Ms. Michelle Tijerina

Welcome to 5th Grade Reading!  My name is Ms. Tijerina and I am a 5th Grade Reading Teacher at Sam Jamison Middle School.  I am a graduate of the University of Houston where I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Disorders.  Go Coogs!  I have 15 years of teaching experience in public schools.  I have also taught 2nd and 4th grade, but I particularly enjoy teaching 5th grade Reading.  When I am not teaching I am passionately involved in my children's activities. My hobbies include reading, walking, playing tennis, and visiting my local library.  It is my hope that this school year will be full of successful experiences for your child.









  • Monday Take Home Folders:

    Monday Folders are sent home each Monday with your child.  The folders are to be returned each Tuesday.  Inside the Monday folders you will find graded papers, the blue Conduct Card that needs to be signed and returned, missing assignments, assignments that need to be corrected and returned to teacher, and campus information. 


    Corrections and Missing Assignments:

    If a student earned a grade below a 70 on an assignment, he/she will have until the date indicated on the assignment to corrrect or retake the assignment for a maximum gradae of a 70.  NEVER ERASE THE ORIGINAL ANSWER.  ALL NEW ANSWERS SHOULD BE MADE ON A SEPARATE SHEET OF NOTEBOOK PAPER STAPLED TO THE BACK OF THE ASSIGNMENT. 

    If a student is absent, he or she will receive the assignment(s) when he/she returns.  The student has until the date printed on the missing assignment to complete the assignment or he/she will earn a grade of a zero on the missing assignment. 


    Conduct Cards:

    Conduct Cards are sent home each Monday and can be found in your child's Take Home folder. The cards are to be reviewed and signed by a parent or guardian.  Once signed, please return the Conduct Card and the Take Home folder on Tuesday.  



    Your child is responsible for keeping a record of class objectives and assignments in his/her planner daily.  Objectives and assignments are posted daily in the classroom.  Please take a moment and sign the planners at the end of each week to confirm that your are aware of what is going on in your child's classroom.



    Students are expected to have all their supplies needed for each class, each day.  It is their responsability to replenish their supplies as needed. Supplies needed daily for for READING/LANGUAGE ARTS are:  planner, pencil, pencil sharpener, erasers, 2-red pencils, 2-highlighters, vocabulary composition book, red folder.
