Mrs. Laura Rice
Hello, I am Mrs. Rice. This is my 10th year as an art teacher. Prior to teaching, I taught art to at-risk students in after-school programs. I also worked for Communities In Schools in a neighboring district as a Campus Coordinator where I cared for case loads of students. My job was to keep students from dropping out of school. I also worked as a Site Coordinator where I managed a staff and implemented academic and enrichment lessons after school for TEA. I first began teaching as a classroom teacher soon after at a Houston area T-STEM charter school. I taught art to 6th-12th grade students. Art and school are some of the reasons I ended the cycle of poverty in my household.
Students, in my art class, I expect you to work hard and to, most importantly, try. Everyone has a gift in art and you can do it!
Outside of school, I love watching football, basketball and baseball. I got married last year to my best friend of over 10 years. I love to make art with my friends. I love attending and serving at church and I love my family very much!
Mission Statement: Art is essential in today's workforce. I strongly believe that art empowers young people in all areas or fields of study. Artistic creativity is necessary for learning as well as for character building and self-esteem. I hope that you are empowered in my classroom so that it drives you towards success!
