Mr. Kirk Coppes

Kirk Coppes is a science enthusiast who has worked with the Smithsonian Institution, Rice University, and the University of Houston.  Mr. Coppes is a former Houston ISD Teacher of the Year and was nominated for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics under President Obama.  Mr. Coppes is also the winner of the 2020 HISD Elementary Science Teacher award.  He has been featured on KHOU and the Houston Chronicle for his unique and creative approach to teaching science.

Mr. Coppes is married with three kids, two who attend Pearland schools.  He enjoys playing the guitar, board games, and general nerd culture.  He loves black coffee.  He enjoys games and movies that include Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Marvel and DC superheroes, and Harry Potter.

- Mr. C. is also building new lab tables for his classroom as he receives the needed materials. Feel free to drop off 1/2" 4'x8' plywood, 2"x4"s, and 4"x4" at the lab!
- Interested in donating a class animal?  Our class currently has a veiled chameleon, an East African pygmy hedgehog, a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko, Madagascar hissing cochroaches, and an alligator.  We always welcome new animal friends to learn about adaptations and environmental science.
