Do Pearland ISD students need a device every day?
Yes.
Whether the student is receiving on campus or remote instruction, an approved device is needed every day for every class period.

What are district approved devices?
Pre-K - 1st Grades
- iPad 7th generation or higher
- iPad Air 2018 or higher
- iPad Pro 2017 or higher
- iPad Mini 5th generation or higher
2nd - 12th Grade
- Windows 10 device, touchscreen preferred
- Apple laptop with OS version 9 or higher
Pearland ISD does not recommend the use of Chromebooks.
Please peruse the device specifications of the iPad and Dell Latitude 3310 laptop that Pearland ISD issues to students.

Is a Chromebook a district approved device?
Pearland ISD does not recommend the use of Chromebooks.

Are Chromebooks compatible with LockDown Browser?
LockDown Browser for Chromebook uses a Chrome Extension that can only be run in kiosk mode. Google requires that all kiosk apps be managed via their Google Admin Suite (a license is required for this product), and so the LockDown Browser for Chromebook app cannot be made available to students for use on their personally owned devices.

Where can I find information regarding device insurance?
Pearland ISD is pleased to announce optional insurance coverage for the district-issued Dell laptops. This does not apply to the district-issued iPads since AppleCare+ is already included.
In order to sign up for this optional insurance coverage, the premium should be paid by parents directly to the insurance company no later than October 30th for students who have already received their devices.
If your student receives a device after October 9th, the premium should be paid by parents directly to the insurance company within 30 days of receiving the device.

How can I receive Internet at home?
Pearland ISD is currently working with T-Mobile to provide WiFi access for qualifying students and families. There is currently a supply and data capacity issue with District hotspots.
There are other low-cost options for broadband internet that may be available to families within the Pearland ISD community.

Comcast (Internet Essentials)
Offering new, low-income Internet Essentials customers two months of free internet and raising the speed of that program's service to 25/3 Mbps. The monthly fee is $9.95 + tax.Xfinity WiFi hotspots located in businesses and outdoor locations across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free — including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. Lifeline
Lifeline is a federal program that lowers the monthly cost of phone and internet. Eligible customers will get up to $9.25 toward their bill. You can only use Lifeline for either phone or internet, but not both.
