Mrs. Carrie Cummings
Hello! Welcome to my teacher website for the 2022-2023 school year! I am approaching this year with true excitement that MAYBE we will have an uneventful, uninterrupted year of learning and fun together!!
I am originally from Austin, TX, and lived there from birth through my graduation from the University of Texas at Austin. I received my BA in English, and worked at the University of Texas Alumni Center for a few years. I actually began teaching as a substitute teacher at a DAEP program in Conroe. I discovered that I had a passion for teaching students who struggle in school, whether the struggle be academic, behavioral, or just circumstantial. I also discovered that teaching MATH was a passion, and that I could use my English degree to help figure out the best way to explain a math problem to a math-resistant student or to a gifted student whose brain works differently than mine! I have now been teaching high school math for 18 years, and can't envision doing anything else. I came to Pearland ISD to teach at ALA, the discipline campus for Pearland ISD located at the PACE Center, and taught all of the math courses PISD offers for 7 years, and I am now a 6th year Dawson Eagle!
I am married to my husband, Scott, who is a local pastor, and we have three children: Jake, who is 20 and a junior Musical Theater major at Sam Houston State University, Ben, who is 17 and a senior at Dawson, and Caroline, who is 13 and a 8th grader at Berry Miller.
If you'd like to learn a bit more about me and my mindset about PAP math classes, please watch my Meet the Teacher video at the top of this page!
Tutorial Schedule: During the week, I will host Eagle Hour tutorials during the 2nd half (Part B) on Mondays/Wednesdays. I am also available most mornings before school, starting at 6:45 am (except Tuesdays when I have morning hall duty). Please take advantage of these times as the best way to receive extra help/assistance from me.
Remind: Sign up for Remind messages from Mrs. Cummings! If you are a PAP Precalculus student, you can search for the code: @2223pappre, or text @2223pappre to 81010. If you are a PAP Algebra 2 student, you can search for the code: @2223papalg, or text @2223papalg to 81010.
Grades. You can check your student's grade on Skyward.
Class Calendar and Files: All of my curriculum (including notes documents, instructional videos, practice resources, assignments, test reviews and test review videos, etc.) will be loaded into Canvas this year (Canvas link). There will be modules with a heading for each day, and under each day, will be pages with instructional videos/blank notes templates (if there is a way to print them out or fill them out digitally and save the edited document), links to online assignments, as well as test reviews and test review videos that prepare students for the assessment over that unit, and a host of other resources. This should assist both in helping the student go back over a lesson that they may have had a low comfort level with (or just were not "feeling it" during that period) as well as helping a student who was out of class for any reason to feel like they don't slip behind the rest of the class.
Thank you for allowing me to work with your student, and please contact me with any questions or concerns. Communication between me, your student, and you, the parent/guardian, will ensure their success and that their needs are met!
