Mrs. Carrie Cummings

Hello!  Welcome to my homepage!

I am originally from Austin, TX, and lived there from birth through my graduation from the University of Texas.  I received my BA in English, and worked at the University of Texas Alumni Center for a few years.  I actually began teaching as a substitute teacher at a DAEP program in Conroe.  I discovered that I had a passion for teaching students who struggle in school, whether the struggle be academic, behavioral, or just circumstantial.  I also discovered that teaching MATH was a passion, and that I could use my English degree to help figure out the best way to explain a math problem to a math-resistant student or to a gifted student whose brain works differently than mine!  I have now been teaching high school math for 14 years, and can't envision doing anything else. I came to Pearland ISD to teach at ALA, the discipline campus for Pearland ISD, and taught all of the math courses PISD offers for 7 years, and I am now a 3rd year Dawson Eagle!

I am married to my husband, Scott, who is a local pastor, and we have three children:  Jake, who is 17 and a senior at Dawson, Ben, who is 14 and a freshman at Dawson, and Caroline, who is 10 and a 5th grader at Rogers.

Tutorial Schedule:   I am available for tutorials on Wednesday/Friday mornings, and Tuesday/Thursday during Eagle Hour  Please take advantage of these times as the best way to receive extra help/assistance from me.

Remind:  Sign up for Remind messages from Mrs. Cummings!  If you are in Algebraic Reasoning with me, you can search for the code: @ardawson20, or text @ardawson20 to 81010.  If you are in Pre-AP Algebra 2, you can search for the code:  @a2cummings, or text @a2cummings to 81010.  Parents are welcome to sign up for the appropriate class Remind as well, if you would like to see the day to day class announcements, reminders, or work your student missed due to absence.

Grades.  You can check your student's grade on Skyward.

Pre-AP Algebra 2:   Online Algebra 2 Textbook

Class Calendar and Files:  I will be converting most of my online resources into Canvas this year (Canvas link).  There will be modules with blank notes, notes' keys, blank homework assignments and test reviews, test review keys, test review videos that work through the problems on the test review), and a host of other resources to access and be able to print.  I may also assign a homework or give a quiz or other assessment via Canvas.  Students will notified in advance when those are to occur.   Sometimes projects will be submitted through Canvas (both as rough drafts and final products - again, students will be aware of deadlines well in advance).

Thank you for allowing me to work with your student, and please contact me with any questions or concerns.  Communication between me, your student, and you, the parent/guardian, will ensure their success and that their needs are met!
