During the 2014-15 school year, four grants were awarded to innovative music projects. Foundation grants were used to fund musical instruments, classroom lessons, and special concert performances.
Brian Berlin, Carleston Elementary Music Teacher
"Accordions are an ideal instrument for young learners because of their simple layout, portability, and relevance to many types of cultural music. We used grant funds to purchase a set of classroom accordions. Now, our elementary accordion band is one of the few in the nation and very popular among both students and parents."
Jeanette Adleman, Magnolia Elementary Music Teacher
"Music is an essential part of a child’s learning experience. With the grant money, we were able to purchase bell sets, tambourines, guiros, a djembe drum, triangles, maracas, and tone blocks. Our sincere appreciation goes to the Pearland ISD Education Foundation for helping us to create a musically fun-filled learning environment for all students at Magnolia Elementary."
Eileen Guinon, Sablatura Middle School Choir/Music Teacher
"Because of this grant there are now enough instruments for each student to use, practice, and showcase through performances. It has enriched student learning and overall success of our music program."
The Foundation is proud to support the positive benefits that school music brings to students of all ages in Pearland ISD.
