DHS Athletic Trainers are State Champions at Training Aid Competition

Dawson Athletic Trainers

The Glenda Dawson Student Athletic Training Aid Program traveled to Stephenville, TX to compete in the Texas Athletic Trainers Association (TSATA) State Student Athletic Training Aid Competition at Tarleton State University.

The state competition was comprised of three rounds. Round one was a digital test that was scored based on right and wrong answers, as well as the speed of a team’s answer. Round one test questions were comprised of general sports medicine, anatomy, and sports injuries, all things that the student aids learn during their time with the program. Dawson High School dominated the competition placing first overall in this round, setting the standard high for the rest of the competition. Round two was another digital test with increased difficultly with more in-depth anatomy and general medical terminology, as well as adding common diseases and emergency situations. Dawson came in tied for second in this round. The final round was a skills competition comprised of four individual student skills and one all-team skill that needed to be demonstrated. Each individual skill had to be completed by a different student and points were awarded by a judge for how well the skill was executed. Dawson received a nearly perfect combined score for the overall third round, securing them the state championship.
