Historic Win: Sablatura Middle School's All-Female Team Claims Top Spot at International Future Problem Solving Competition
Pearland Independent School District is celebrating as their team from Sablatura Middle School secured first place at the prestigious International Future Problem Solving Competition. Sixth-graders Lydia He, Clara Hong, Annabelle Yang and Gloria Zhang represented Pearland ISD at the event held at Indiana University. The competition brought together bright young minds from across the world to tackle pressing future issues through critical thinking, innovative collaboration, and creative problem-solving. Pearland ISD sent 11 student representatives from Sablatura Middle School and 30 from Dawson High School.
The Sablatura Middle School team, coached by Cassandra Maldonado and Lynda Ketterer, competed in the Global Issues Problem Solving – Junior Division. Their task was to delve into "The Future of History," exploring how humanity might best preserve, protect, or safeguard historical knowledge, sites, structures, records, and artifacts in a rapidly changing future. The team presented a dynamic and forward-thinking solution. Their proposal earned top marks for creativity, profound research depth, and real-world applicability, securing their position at the pinnacle of international competition.
"We are incredibly proud of all the students who represented Pearland ISD at the international competition this year," said Stacy Mueller, Pearland ISD GT Academy specialist. "Participation in FPS has significantly strengthened their skills in research, critical thinking, and teamwork. Spending five days at Indiana University allowed them to demonstrate leadership and independence, engage with peers across the globe, and even perform in a variety show. There is no limit to what this talented group can achieve!" This remarkable win further solidifies Pearland ISD's GT Academy's growing legacy of academic excellence and innovation.
