Pearland High School Student Earns National Medal and Scholarship at NAACP ACT-SO Competition

Pearland High School rising senior and District Ambassador, Aadon Sowells, is making his mark on the national stage.
After placing first and earning a Gold Medal in Drawing at the local NAACP Houston Branch Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics competition, Sowells advanced to the national competition in Chicago. Competing against 27 top young artists from across the country, Sowells secured 3rd place, earning a National Bronze Medal and an academic scholarship.
The NAACP ACT-SO program is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African American high school students. Sowells’ impressive performance highlights both his exceptional artistic talent and his commitment to excellence as a student leader.
"We are immensely proud of Aadon's remarkable achievement on the national stage," Pearland ISD Superintendent Dr. Larry Berger said. "Representing our district as both an ambassador and a nationally recognized artist showcases his dedication, hard work and bright future."
