Pearland ISD Dawson High School Athletic Trainers Win Championship
The Dawson High School Sports Medicine team recently received their fifth Greater Houston Athletic Trainers’ Society (GHATS) regional championship becoming the first-ever back-to-back champions. Victory at GHATS allowed Dawson High School to defend its 2023 state title at the 2024 Texas State Athletic Trainers’ Association (TSATA) State Student Athletic Training Aid Competition at Tarleton State University.
The state competition is comprised of two major competitions. The first competition tested the student’s clinical skills comprised of three individual student skills and one team skill. The second competition was an academic quiz bowl with questions that range in topics from biology, anatomy & physiology, nutrition, general medicine, and entry-level exercise physiology.
The State Championship team this year comprised of junior students Haile Pamoja, Laila Groves, Mustafa Madinawala, Maddie Locklear, and sophomore students Tatum Langley, Katie Roth, and Myla Jabbar. The team is led by the award-winning athletic training staff, including two alumni from Dawson High School. Their staff is comprised of head athletic trainer Christina Fry class of 2012, team sponsor and assistant athletic trainer Joseph B. Eberhardt class of 2015, and assistant athletic trainer Thomas Patrey.
