Pearland ISD Leads Houston Area in SAT Performance Amidst Statewide Decline

As newly released data from the Texas Education Agency shows a continued statewide decline in SAT scores, Pearland Independent School District has once again distinguished itself by achieving the highest average SAT score in the Houston area.

While Texas graduating seniors earned an average total SAT score of 971 in 2024 marking a sixth straight year of statewide decline and falling below the national average of 1024. Pearland ISD ranked number one in the Houston area, with its average total score increasing slightly from 1137 in 2023 to 1158 in 2024

“We are incredibly proud of our students and the dedication of our educators who have worked tirelessly to maintain excellence, even through the challenges of the post-pandemic learning environment,” Dr. Joseph Cahill, Director of Advanced Academics said. “Our consistent regional leadership in SAT scores reflects the effectiveness of our advanced placement programs, rigorous curriculum, and focused guidance counseling that prepares every student for college admission and success.”

The SAT is a crucial standardized test widely used for college admissions. Pearland ISD attributes its strong performance to strategic investments in teaching resources, continuous professional development for staff, and a deep community commitment to academic achievement.
