Pearland ISD Names Anthony Shields as New Director of Transportation

Anthony Shields

Anthony Shields was recently named the Pearland Independent School District Director of Transportation. Shields will replace Keith Kaup following his retirement from the district after 31 years of service in Transportation. Shields is a veteran in the transportation field with a career spanning nearly two decades. He joins the district with a proven track record of operational excellence and a deep-seated commitment to student safety.

Shields’ career in public education began in the classroom as a substitute teacher before he transitioned into the transportation sector as a school bus driver. His "boots-on-the-ground" experience laid the foundation for a steady ascent through various leadership roles, including driver trainer, operations specialist, operations supervisor, and assistant director.

Most recently, Shields served as the Director of Transportation for San Marcos CISD. His professional credentials include certifications from the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation and the National Association for Pupil Transportation. He also serves as a professional development instructor for TAPT and is a frequent speaker at state and national conferences.

"I am passionate about developing people, strengthening operations, and ensuring student safety remains at the center of every decision," said Shields. "I want to lead a student-centered department rooted in safety, service, and excellence."

In his new role, Shields will oversee all transportation operations, ensuring the safe and reliable movement of students across the district.

Shields conducted his undergraduate studies in Music Performance (Flute) at North Dakota State University. Though his career took him into logistics and education, his appreciation for the arts remains a significant part of his life. Outside of the office, he looks forward to attending Houston Symphony concerts, exploring Pearland’s nature trails, and enjoying the diverse culinary scene the area is known for.

Pearland ISD is committed to preparing students for the world of tomorrow through educational excellence. The transportation department plays a vital role in this mission, serving as the first and last point of contact for thousands of students every school day. Shield’s appointment reinforces the district's dedication to "Build Pearland Proud."
