Pearland ISD Pearadox Team Advances to District State Championship

Pearadox Advancing to State Championship

Each year, Pearadox, an organization made up of 60 high school students across Robert Turner College & Career, Glenda Dawson and Pearland High Schools and 20 STEM professional mentor volunteers design, machine, construct and program a 115-pound robot, building youth confidence, technical expertise and soft skills.

In March, they competed in two competitions: the Space City 1 in League City and Houston District events. Across these events, they were awarded the Engineering Inspiration and Impact awards for community outreach and culture-changing advancement of STEM.

The Impact Award is the most prestigious award in FIRST, honoring the team that best embodies the mission and represents a model for other teams to emulate. After twelve qualification matches, they advanced to the playoffs as the seventh alliance captain, PEARing up with 7492 Turbo Torque, 8177 Vector, and 9181 PlatyPirates.

At the Houston event, their robot, CleoPEARtra, excelled in twelve qualification matches with eight wins and four losses. They advanced to the playoffs as the first pick for the second alliance, PEARing up with 231 High Voltage and 11242 Golden Eagle Mechanics and advancing to the semi-finals.

Currently, the team is developing and manufacturing a brand-new robot for the District (State) Championship where they will face the top 90 teams in Texas. By winning the Engineering Inspiration and Impact awards, they qualified to compete for both awards again at the Texas District (State) Championship, facing 24 other teams across Texas and New Mexico. Pearadox is only one of three Texas teams this season that qualified to compete for both awards. The community is encouraged to cheer on the team at this free event at the NRG Arena April 16-18th.
