Pearland ISD Seeks Mentors for School Year, Asks Community to RISE Up and Make a Difference

Pearland Independent School District is calling on community members to become a part of its RISE Mentoring program for the 2026-27 school year. With a commitment of just 30 minutes per week, mentors can make a significant, lifelong impact on a young person's life.
The RISE program matches students with a supportive adult who can offer a listening ear, encouragement, and guidance as they work to achieve their goals. The program's name, RISE, serves as a reminder of its core purpose:
- Reach: Connect with students by understanding their world.
- Inspire: Act as a positive role model.
- Support: Be consistently present and committed to the relationship.
- Empower: Help students see their potential and strive for more than they ever thought possible.
Mentors meet with their assigned student for 30 minutes each week during the school day at the student's campus. This consistent, long-term commitment builds trust and confidence, which are essential for a successful mentor-mentee relationship. The district uses a comprehensive application, background check, and screening process to carefully match mentors with students.
How to Get Started
To begin the process of becoming a RISE mentor, individuals should:
- Complete a mentor application and volunteer background check on the Pearland ISD website.
- Register for and attend one of the required training sessions at the Education Support Center, 1928 N. Main.
Training sessions are scheduled for the following dates:
- Thursday, August 20: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Friday, September 4: 9 a.m.-noon
- Thursday, September 10: 9 a.m. - noon (virtual training)
- Friday, September 25: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Tuesday, October 20: 9 a.m.-noon
- Monday, October 26: 9 a.m.-noon
