Pearland Junior High West Oleum Yearbook Earns Top State and National Honors for Excellence

West Yearbook Award

The Pearland Junior High West Oleum Yearbook staff has achieved outstanding recognition at both the state and national levels, earning multiple prestigious awards that highlight the team’s dedication, creativity, and journalistic excellence for the 2024-25 Yearbook.

The Oleum Yearbook was selected for inclusion in the Jostens Look Book, a national publication that celebrates the most innovative and visually striking yearbooks and page designs across the country. This honor places Oleum among an elite group of programs recognized for excellence in storytelling, design, and coverage.

At the state level, Oleum received the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC) Achievement of Distinguished Merit, the highest rating a yearbook can earn. This distinction reflects exceptional performance in writing, photography, design, and overall production quality.

Additionally, Oleum was awarded the ILPC with UIL Bronze Star, recognizing it as being in the top 10 percent of all student newspapers and yearbooks in Texas. This honor underscores the publication’s consistent excellence and impact within scholastic journalism.

Individual student achievement was also strongly represented, with Oleum staff members earning an impressive 18 ILPC Individual Achievement Awards. These awards highlight outstanding work in categories such as photography, writing, layout, and design, showcasing the talent and hard work of the student staff.

“These honors are a testament to the passion, commitment, and creativity of our yearbook staff,” said. Julie Pasha, Oleum adviser. “Each student played a vital role in producing a publication that not only captures the school year but does so at an award-winning level.”
