Dawson High School senior, Maryam Hassan, Pearland High School senior, Cecilia Castaneda-Sanchez and Turner College and Career High School senior, Martin Gomez were awarded a full-tuition Posse Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship will cover the full cost of attendance at their respective universities.

Hassan will attend Carleton College in Minnesota. She is the first Dawson student to receive a Posse Scholarship. Castaneda-Sanchez will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall and Gomez will head to Oberlin College in Ohio next year.

The Posse Foundation identifies, recruits, and trains a diverse cohort of public high school students who together become Posse Scholars. These Scholars attend a select college or university as a team, providing unparalleled support and a strong foundation for academic and personal success. “We are incredibly proud of our students and their outstanding achievement,” Dr. Larry Berger, Pearland ISD superintendent said. “They exemplify the qualities that we seek to instill in all of our students – leadership, academic potential, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the community.”

To be eligible for the Posse Scholarship, high school seniors must demonstrate leadership within their school, community, or family, possess strong academic potential, and be nominated by their school or a community-based organization. The Posse Scholarship is not a minority or need-based scholarship. It is open to students of all backgrounds.
