Turner and Pearland High School Students Advance to HOSA International
Three students from Turner College and Career High School and one from Pearland High School will represent Pearland Independent School District at the International HOSA Conference to be held in Nashville, TN on June 18-21.
The students qualified for the international level of the competition after placing in the top three of their categories at the state competition held in April.
Students representing Pearland ISD include:
- Cecilia Castaneda-Sanchez - 1st place in Behavioral Health, PHS
- Cerenity Douglas - 1st Research persuasive Writing and speaking, TCCHS
- Ashley Namata - 3rd Home Health Aide, TCCHS
- Elijah Portillo - 3rd Physical Therapy, TCCHS
TCCHS students, Abigail Kim, Fernanda Fonseca, Ashley Namata, Zoey Piedras, Adon Kumbattu, and Arianna LeBlanc will be honored with the Barbara James Gold Award of Recognition for contributing a minimum of 250 hours for community service during the 2024-25 school year. Torin Luong will receive the Barbara James Silver Award of Recognition for contributing a minimum of 175 hours and Lenna Diaz, Elijah Portillo, Martin Gomez, Alexandra Yerena, Nicole Gonzalez, Danny Haton, Freddy Ruiz, and Shelby Mai will receive the Barbara James Bronze Award of Recognition for contributing a minimum of 100 hours.
Both Pearland HOSA and TCCHS HOSA also received a Silver Award for Blood Drive units collected in a year.

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is a program focused on developing students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care.
Belinda Ganceres-Garcia, Lacey Jackson, Taylor Norris and Caren Wonders are the sponsors at TCCHS and Katelyn Joyce at PHS.
